Microsoft is looking for volunteers to test a new version of its free computer-security service, Microsoft Security Essentials, which expands on the capabilities of the anti-malware product it introduced last September.
In a blog post Tuesday, Microsoft said it was holding a beta test of the new service in the United States and in Israel in English, and in Brazil in Portuguese. It said it would test the product in Simplified Chinese later this year.
The company said there were a limited number of testing spots, but declined to say exactly how many. When Microsoft ran a beta test of the first version of Security Essentials a year ago, the 75,000 spots reserved for the United States were snapped up in a day and the Israel and Brazil spots a few days later.
